The idea behind this project: to help physically impaired seniors and those with dementia stay active using modern technology. 

Studies have shown that this helps brain cells remain active longer and that playing games together improves quality of life. Researchers from Canada even report that such activities can help protect against dementia. 

So now, under professional guidance, seniors are learning to use game consoles and tablet computers—often for the first time in their lives.

Impressive Successes

Our initial experiences have been so impressive that we definitely want to continue and expand this project. 

Gradually, the EVIM senior centers will be equipped with the necessary devices. Even bowling is possible—even for those who already need a walker or wheelchair. This is made possible by a smart TV and a game console with the “Sport Edition,” since the games are played using simple hand movements. This helps improve balance and coordination while also bringing back memories of the past.

Even bedridden patients can participate

Using tablet computers, they can play memory games and solve crossword puzzles with roommates, caregivers, or volunteers. Special programs encourage them to get started, provide individual assistance, and motivate them to be active. And those who are no longer able to do so may enjoy an audiobook. Anytime and for as long as they want.

 

 

To achieve our goal, we need your donation

Suitable computer games cost between €10 and €50. A Wii console with sports edition costs around €500, a tablet PC suitable for seniors costs €400, and a smart TV with access to audiobooks and old movies also costs around €500.
