With our "Be welcome" sponsorship program, we support refugees and migrant workers as they settle in Germany. We are looking for people who would like to accompany them on part of their journey as part of a sponsorship program. This leads to interesting encounters and new perspectives. Everyone involved learns from each other and gains new experiences.

The idea behind this project: keeping seniors with severe physical limitations and dementia fit with modern technology. Studies have shown that this keeps brain cells active for longer and that playing together improves quality of life. Researchers in Canada even report that this type of activity can protect against dementia. Under professional guidance, seniors are now learning to use game consoles and tablet computers—often for the first time in their lives.

Our initial experiences have been so impressive that we definitely want to continue and expand this project. Gradually, the EVIM senior centers will be equipped with the appropriate devices. Even bowling is possible, even if a walker or wheelchair is already necessary. This is done with a smart TV and a game console with "Sport Edition." The game is played with simple hand movements. This trains balance and coordination while bringing back memories of the past.

Even bedridden patients can participate

Using tablet computers, they can play memory games and solve crossword puzzles with roommates, caregivers, or volunteers. Special programs encourage them to get started, provide individual assistance, and motivate them to be active. And those who are no longer able to do so may enjoy an audiobook. Anytime and for as long as they want.

 

 

To achieve our goal, we need your donation

Suitable computer games cost between €10 and €50. A Wii console with sports edition costs around €500, a tablet PC suitable for seniors costs €400, and a smart TV with access to audiobooks and old movies also costs around €500.
