Ecumenical Service for the Feast of the Ascension in 2026 at St. Peter and Paul Parish.

Ecumenical Service and Farewell After 22 Years

Ascension Day was celebrated together at the Jan Niemöller House. At the same time, Pastor Knud Schmitt, who had been caring for the residents for more than two decades, said his goodbyes.

Due to rain and cool temperatures, this year’s ecumenical service for the Ascension of Christ was held in the parish halls of St. Peter and Paul.

The service was celebrated jointly by Rev. Dr. Jörg Mohn, Ms. Ute Trimpert (parish assistant), Rev. Roland Falk of the Auferstehungsgemeinde, Dean Uwe Groß, and Rev. Martin Roggenkämper of the Oranienkirche.

Pastor Knud Schmitt joined the service and then accompanied parishioners to the EVIM Jan-Niemöller-Haus. There, refreshments were served, including delicious pea soup, sausages, coffee, and cake. The collection taken during the service was donated to social projects at the EVIM Jan-Niemöller-Haus.

For Pastor Knud Schmitt, this day was also a special farewell. For over 22 years, he had ministered to the residents of the Jan-Niemöller-Haus. As he himself said, the home has grown very dear to his heart during this time. Since he is leaving the congregation and will be serving in Eltville in the future, he bid farewell to the residents and staff of the home on Ascension Day.

We sincerely thank Pastor Knud Schmitt for his many years of dedication and wish him God’s rich blessings in his new ministry.
